London-(via Guangzhou)- Shanghai-Hanoi and same return trip

Hi,

I hold a UK passport and am planning to travel from London to Shanghai, where I’ll stay for 3 days. After that, I’ll fly to Hanoi with a 2-hour layover in Guangzhou. This segment is booked on a different airline and ticket. One month and a couple of days later, I’ll return to London following the same route: flying from Hanoi to Shanghai (with 3-hour layover in Guangzhou) and staying 3 days in Shanghai before continuing to London.

Will I be eligible for China’s visa-free transit policy on both trips? Also, as a Vietnamese passport holder, do I need to show proof of accommodation in Vietnam when applying for the 240-hour visa-free transit?

Thanks.

With your UK passport, you can enjoy the 240h visa free transit as your routes are eligible. If you travel to China with your Vietnam passport, you cannot enjoy this policy and will be required a visa. So, make sure that you buy tickets with your UK passport and show it when going through border inspections and customs.

Besides, you don’t need to apply for the 240h visa free transit because it’s not a type of visa. You can enter China visa free as long as you are qualified. You only need to apply for a 240h visa-free stay permit upon arrival to start your China trip.
