About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

240 visa free transit - will I qualify?

Hello!
I will be flying from Malaysia with US passport to Beijing (PEK) then to Xian (XIY) then to Seoul, South Korea.
Can I fly into Beijing, PEK then fly out of Xian, XIY? Does it have to have to be the same port of entry into and out of China?

We are planning to take the high speed train from Beijing to Xian. Is this a better option than flying in early May? Will there be a place to put our carry-on luggage?

Also, we can still use cash in Xian?

Lastly, my traveling companion will be using a Malaysian passport. There will be nothing additional that she needs to do, correct? Just go through immigration and that’s it?
Thank you so much for your help!

Your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit and the entry/exit ports can be different. So you can fly into China by using Beijing and to exit China using Xi'an airport. It is definitely better to take a train from Beijing to Xi'an, but when you are about to book your ticket, just be focused and choose a train with shorter time required to perform the journey. In any case, take just those that take slightly longer than 4 hours for that journey. There will be the place to store your carry-on luggage and you will be assisted where to place it. You can still use cash in Xi'an, so there is no problem about it, although digital options become more and more prevalent and preferred. Your Malaysian travel companion has a right to enter and stay in China for up to 30 days visa free and she/he does not need to approach 24/240 visa free transit counter as you will have to upon your landing in Beijing. Have a nice visit to China.
