About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Question regarding transit visa

Swedish passport holder. Will fly from London to Tokyo for a trip to Japan, with a layover in Beijing (less than two hours). Will stay in Japan for a week. Will fly back from Tokyo to London, with another layover in Beijing, but this time for 48 hours. Is it possible to do the 24 hour TWOV when transiting Beijing on our way to Japan, and then do the 240-hour visa free transit when we fly back from Japan via Beijing?

Yes, of course you can enjoy both 24 and 240 hour visa free transit within your journey regardless of the length of the period when will you use them. You should not worry about this at all. I just wanted to tell you that during your first transit through mainland China (Beijing in your case), you will just walk from one to the other gate and you will not be a subject of immigration and customs inspections. Also, you do not need to perform any formality nor to fill out any forms. You will just cross a security check between the two gates. This is so easy and painless. During your second arrival in Beijing, you will fill out an arrival card that will be dispensed on board the plane before your landing in Beijing and after your landing, your first stop will be 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation because you will be asked for your address in China. When your permit is granted, you will head to the immigration and then to the city to spend your time on your own. Have a pleasant journey.
