Visa application form problems.

I have 2 problems completing the application form. I am due to fly to Shanghai and stay only in Shanghai but leaving once to do a side trip to Japan and returning to Shanghai. I am putting in the date of my "intended arrival to China" and the date of my arrival to my address in Shanghai as the same date (which they are) but the form keeps saying "the date of arrival must be later than the date of intended arrival" which doesn't seem to make sense. I am wondering if it is an error with the form or not.
My second issue is that even though I have requested "double entries" to China the form doesn't seem to allow for 2 separate dates for arrival into China to be input and i can therefore only insert the date of my final departure from Shanghai (perhaps mentioning the dates of the trip to/from Japan in the space for 'other information" at the end of the form). Does this seem right?

How long will you stay in Shanghai before you go to Japan? You mean you will leave for Japan on the same day you arrive in Shanghai? If yes, you do not need a visa for the no more than 24hrs' stay because of the 24h visa free transit policy. If longer than 24 hours, I think you are eligible for the 240h visa free transit if you fly into Shanghai from UK. You can check your eligibility by reading this: https://www.travelchinaguide.com/tour/visa/free-transit-144-hours.htm
May I know your full itinerary to see if you really need a visa?

Maybe it's "the date of departure must be later than the intended date of arrival" which means your date to leave for Japan should be later than your arrival in Shanghai?

As for the two separate dates for arrival into China, in my impression, there is the 2.2C part for you to choose your intended number of entries, if you select two then you may be able to put in your second arrival date.

Thanks. Problem sorted ( I had missed answering part of a question stopping me from progressing the form. Yes I do need a visa as I am staying several days before going to Japan and then returning for a longer visit.

Gerald, the 144-hour visa-free transit has been extended to 240-hour, 10 days. So if your stay in Shanghai is less than 10 days, no visa will be needed as you hold UK passport. Anyway, wish you a nice trip to Shanghai and Japan~
