About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

10 day transit visa apply after Hong Kong?

US citizen passport. I’m flying to LAX to Hong Kong and spending 4 days. Then flying from Hong Kong to Shanghai (PVG), then taking a train to Beijing and flying from Beijing (PEK) to Tokyo. 4 days in Hong Kong and 8 days total in Shanghai and Beijing. Does this qualify for transit visa?

Yes, your itinerary is eligible for 240 hour visa free transit. The time (days) spent in Hong Kong are not counted against 240 hours because 240 hours are relevant to mainland China only and not relevant to the Chinese territories of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
