About:China Visa Application in UK

J2 Visa, Edinburgh

Hello, I would like to apply for a J2 Visa at the Edinburgh Visa Centre. I have been informed that I need approval from the Chinese Consulate beforehand, is this correct? The Consulate seems to have no knowledge of this and I am struggling to understand the correct process. Thank you

Yes, it's correct. "Applicants should contact the press section of the Chinese Embassy/Consulate General in advance and complete the required formalities.", quoted from the official.
