Old passport with a China visa (expired) has been lost or destroyed

Our old passports with expired visas for China tourism are not available. My wife and I have looked everywhere and have to assume we have lost them or they have been destroyed. We are indicating on the applications that the old passports/visas are not available. Will this situation keep us from obtaining new visas?
