About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 stops in China

Is somewhere written specifically that in case of 1 long stop (48h) for example in Xi'an and then 1 short stop (2h) in Shanghai before flying to Malaysia you can't apply for the visa free transit in Xi'an? Thanks

Yes, it is specifically written in the relevant documents of the Chinese National Immigration administration that is in charge as far as the immigration and visa free transit programs are concerned.

Simply speaking, under the 144 hour visa free transit, you cannot have two mainland Chinese stops in a row. This is allowed only under 24 hour visa free transit, but since your layovers are longer than 24 hours, such a flight itinerary requires a visa obtained in advance. I'm sorry.
