About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Traveling to China with a side trip to Thailand

We are Canadians traveling to China for 6 weeks to visit our son who works there and our daughter in law who is Chinese. In the past we had an 8 year tourist visa with multiple entries. We are applying for a new 10 year visa with multiple entries. We plan to travel to Thailand for a 12 day holiday with our son and daughter in law during our holiday in China, returning to China before coming home. Is there any issue with doing this? We don't want to book our Thailand trip until we are sure. We are considering two visa options a ten year short term family visa with multiple entries or a tourist visa with multiple entries. Your thoughts? I am wondering if the tourist visa gives more options for travel in China.

You can plan your trip to Thailand like this. I think the Q2 short term family visa is more suitable for you as you have your son in China and the duration of stay is usually 180 days, longer than the tourist visa with 15-90 days' duration. You can use the Q2 visa for travel, no difference with traveling with tourist L visa.
