About:Hong Kong MTR Tickets & Fares

Most cost effective combination of MTR from airport and 1 day pass

We are considering to combine a single MTR ticket with a 1 day pass to travel from the airport to the city to minimize the overall travel cost. Please let us know which station we should buy a single ticket for from the airport and from which we can utilize 1 day pass. Thank you

The combination depends on how long you will be in HK. I advise you to take HK buses to the city which is much cheaper than the airport express then buy a tourist day pass at the nearest MTR station for the next 24 hours transportation.

Sorry, I meant the combination of a single ticket for Hong Kong Express train from airport and a Day Pass. We will stay 3 days 2 nights in Hong Kong, making several trips (long n short) a day in the city. Additionally, on the last day we will depart from our hotel at North Point to aiport for a 8:15am flight. How can we make it by public transportation, taking into consideration as well some more time needed at the airport to return Octopus cards? Thanks so much for your answer. Best. Phan

Then you can buy a single ticket for AE train and download a the Octopus Card for Tourists App to apply for a card with a deposit of HKD 50 which can be topped up by VISA card and get the refund online. Note that you need to pay the service charge of HKD 11 when returning.
To the airport in the early morning, you can take bus no. NA11 at Kam Hong Street, King's Road to the airport before 04:40, taking 80min, so you will arrive at around 06:00. It takes HKD 54.4.
If you want to go earlier to ensure your trip, you can take bus no. N122 at Kam Hong Street, King's Road at 03:30 to Grand Plaza, Nathan Road, walk northward along Portland Street to Argyle Street and turn left for 300m take bus no. NA21 at Mong Kok Market, Argyle Street to the airport, taking about 100min and HKD 55.9.
