The first and the most important detail is that you do not need any kind of visa because you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit scheme.
As far as your ability to exit the airport is concerned, nobody but a Chinese immigration authorities can precisely answer to your question upon your arrival in Shenzhen. However, since your layover belongs to the category of long ones, I would say that your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are really very good.
In order to be allowed to exit the airport you will do the following. Immediately upon your landing in Shenzhen you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter. There you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets and your hotel booking confirmation if you plan to stay overnight. This application is free of any charge. After a short check and decision making, you will be, hopefully, granted a permit and you will then proceed to the immigration to exit the airport and to enjoy the city on your own.
I wish you the best of luck in this regard.
