Under the visa exemption policy, will traveling to Hong Kong reset the 15-day visa-free period?

I’m from the Netherlands, and I qualify for the 15-day visa-free travel. We’re currently planning our trip and would like to visit Hong Kong as well. I read online that flying out to another country (e.g., Japan) and returning the next day would reset the 15-day visa-free period. Would a visit to Hong Kong also reset the 15-day visa-free period?
