190 day tourist visa

My son lives in China & we are going to visit China for 2 weeks he does not know we are going & I have booked a hotel for our stay, but as I have declared on my visa application that he lives in China, will we need an invitation letter or is the Fight & hotel bookings enough for the visa to be granted?
