About:Hainan 30-Day Visa-Free Access

Can I enter Hainan as a layover stop before flying to other cities in China?

For a New Zealand citizen, am I eligible for the 30 day visa, if I travel from Melbourne to Xi'an with layover in Hainan and plan to enter for 2-3 days before travelling to Xi'an? I understand there is a 15 day visa free for New Zealand citizens, but is this 30 day visa free in Hainan exclusive of the 15 day visa free for the rest of Mainland China? Can I plan my trip for 2-3 days in Hainan and 14 days in other cities of China?

Unfortunately, the 15-day visa free starts when you land in Mainland China no matter whether you apply for the Hainan 30-day visa free access or not. So I'm afraid you cannot plan your trip in this way.

But you can exit to Hong Kong or Macau and then re-enter to activate another 15-day.
