What visa would I require and what are the fees?

I am planning on traveling to China at the end of the year with my family. We are planning to visit Hong Kong and then go to China. We have family in China and want to know if we would require to apply for the family visa or tourist visa? What are the difference between the 2 (including price)? We would like a multiple entry visa as we may visit again in a couple of months time.
