You are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. Here is what will you do, under the assumption that Chongqing is your first and only stop within mainland China:
- Upon landing the first thing that you will do is to approach 24 hour visa free transit where you will apply for a temporary entry permit in order to be allowed to exit the airside because you will have to cross the immigration since you are self transferring. This application is free of any charge.
- When your permit is granted you will proceed to immigration and collect your luggage and proceed to your new check-in (when it opens) in order to connect with your onward flight.
- Since your stopover is quite long, you can also decide to shortly visit Chongqing before your new check-in. This will be up to you.
