How to go to GZ by ferry from HK and back to HK

I’m staying in HK and would like to visit work associates in GZ. The best way is to go by ferry, but does HK->GZ->HK qualify for TWOV? If not, what is the best visa or should I get a ferry from HK->GZ->Macau->HK?

HK->GZ->Macau->HK is the eligible way for a 144-hour visa free transit in Guangzhou, but note that you need to fly from HK to to GZ, because the 144 can only be obtained at the airport. Also, when landing, you need to have the ferry ticket to Macau in hand.

If you don't want to fly, just apply for a regular visa in advance.
