Fany, this is not a visa, but just 144 hour visa free transit. This is a transit status and not any type of visa. It is important to accept this detail to avoid any possible misunderstandings.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible and you will stay in wider Chengdu area and explore it in the way as you wish absolutely visa free. You are advised to printout your flight tickets as well as your hotel booking confirmation for at least the first overnight in Chengdu area.

Upon your check-in in Sydney you will declare that you are traveling to UAE (Dubai) via Chengdu based on 144 hour visa free transit. After a short check, you will be allowed to board the plane. Upon your landing the first you will do is to approach 144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting the above mentioned documentation. This is all free of any charge. After a short time you will be granted a permit and you will proceed to immigration and after that you will explore wider Chengdu area as you wish.

It is important that your flights to and from China do not have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China.
