About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Haneda - Baiyun - Kota Kinabalu (Sabah)

I have a flight on 20 September 2024 from Haneda airport and transit to Baiyun airport for 5 hours before flying to Kota Kinabalu. Since I am from Malaysia, am I allowed to go downtown of the city? Is it with or without visa? And if it is with visa, how do I apply for it?

Thanks!

Malaysian citizens do not need a visa of any kind for a transit or visit of the territory of mainland China. In other words, you can exit the airport if you want without any visa, but I would like to warn you that 5 hours time is quite limited so, please, do not put in jeopardy your onward flight to Kota Kinabalu. In any case, you know best this detail and just to repeat, you do not need any kind of visa. You will just fill out the arrival/departure card on board of the plane, just before your arrival in Guangzhou because you will formally enter China.
