UK passport to HK via Beijing, and possible short trips to Shenzhen

Hi,
Is144 visa free transit required prior to boarding the flight or apply at arrival in Beijing?
Would UK passport holder need a tourist visa from HK to Shenzhen for a day or 2? If yes, would it be advisble to get the visa in HK?
Many thanks.

You enjoy the 144 naturally for the route and it will be processed after your arrival in Beijing. You just need to have the ticket from Beijing to HK in hand when landing.

From HK to Shenzhen, you can apply for a Shenzhen visa on arrival (5 days) at the border or if you will fly from Shenzhen back to UK after, then you can enjoy another 144-hour visa free transit in Shenzhen holding a return flight ticket. In these two cases, you don't need to apply for a visa in UK in HK.
