No, unfortunately, this is not possible. When you rely on 144 hour visa free transit, you are allowed to stay just within the designated transit area. In the case of Chengdu this is the area that comprises the city of Chengdu and other 10 cities in Sichuan, including Zigong, Luzhou, Deyang, Suining, Neijiang, Leshan, Ziyang, Yibin, Ya'an, and Meishan. So, this is the limit you can travel to and between... You are not allowed to exit this area.
Also, when traveling on 144 hour visa free transit, you have to land within one transit area, for example Chengdu, and then leave China from that same transit area. If you have arrived in Chengdu, you have to depart from Chengdu. So, you can do the following:
Bangkok - Chengdu - Moscow
but you cannot do:
Bangkok - Chengdu - Xiamen - Moscow
Also, you cannot return to the same country from where you have arrived to Chengdu.
