About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Melbourne to Hong Kong via China

Hi There,

I am a citizen of Australia and am an Australian passport holder.

I am planning a trip to Hong Kong and was hoping to please get some advice with the below flight plan:

19:45pm - Depart - Melbourne Airport (Australia)
3:45am (next day) - Arrive - Haikou Airport (China)

Transit 2hr 55min in Haikou - In this time need to leave International Terminal, clear customs and go to Haikou Domestic Terminal

6:40am - Depart - Haikou Airport (China)
7:55am - Arrive Shenzhen Bao'An Airport (China)

When arriving in Shenzhen - I plan to leave Shenzhen Airport and immediately go to a Bus Station, Train Station or Ship Port and go to Hong Kong.

As seen above, my total time in China is less than 24 hours.

On return journey it is same plan - but other way around.

Will I be able to do this journey to Hong Kong without applying for Chinese Visa - and be 24 hour Visa Exempt?

As I will be going through two Chinese airports (in different provinces) - will this be an issue?

Also, as I need to leave Shenzhen Airport - so I can catch my transport from another port to Hong Kong - will this be ok?

Thank you.

Yes, you are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit. Going through two airports in Mainland China won't be an issue as the total time in Mainland China is less than 24h.
And if you can make sure that you will leave Shenzhen within 24 hours, then it won't be a problem for you to transport from another port to Hong Kong.

Jash, unfortunately, there is a problem in your itinerary.

You can take a ferry from Shenzhen (Shekou port) to Hong Kong, but you will have to buy your ticket through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport company website, print it out and have that printout at hand even before your departure from Melbourne.

For your journey back, you cannot enter Guangdong province by ferry, bus or train. The only eligible option is to take a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then to transfer by train to Shenzhen in order to continue with your flight from Shenzhen and Haikou back to Australia.
