About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

UK passport China travel

Hello I have a UK passport and am residing in Kenya. Am travelling for a conference to Beijing for 3 days from Nairobi to Istanbul to Beijing. Then travelling to Hongkong and taking flight to Guangzhou for meetings there and Shenzen for 2-3 days. My connecting flight back to Nairobi stops for 1 hour in Changsha. So can i use the 144 hour visa free transit in both Beijing and Guangzhou? Else if can stop in Changsha on way back can I travel back to Hong Kong to catch flight back to Nairobi? thanks

Snehar,

Your first segment:

Istanbul - Beijing - Hong Kong

Is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. However, your second segment:

Hong Kong - Guangzhou - Changsha - Nairobi (I assume)

Is not eligible for any kind of visa free transit.

The basic rule of 144 hour visa free transit clearly says that under 144 hour visa free transit you are not allowed to have two mainland Chinese destinations (different transit zones) in a row of any kind. As you can see, you have stops in both Guangzhou and Changsha.

You will have to adapt your second flight itinerary or obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
