About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

UK to East Asia

Hi, would the 144 hour transit visa be applicable if I am traveling from the UK to Japan --- Japan to Seoul --- Seoul to Beijing --- back to the UK from Beijing if I stay in Beijing for 4 days?

Also if I wanted to, would I be able add in a round trip from Seoul to Shanghai during my duration of stay in Seoul?

Your itinerary:

UK - Japan - Seoul - Beijing - UK

Is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. The main detail is the segment Seoul - Beijing - UK. As you can see, your immediate points before and after your Chinese destination (Beijing in this case) are in two different countries.

However, your idea to do this:

Seoul - Shanghai - Seoul

Is definitely not eligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme because this is just a return trip and not a transit. Also, you will see here that your immediate points before and after your Chinese destination (Shanghai in this case) are in the same country. They have to be in two different countries to be eligible. For example, if you alter your itinerary to look like:

Seoul - Shanghai - Taipei (Taiwan) - Seoul

That would be fine and eligible
. Have i nice journey.
