china visa by mail

we are planning a trip to china in sept, 2024. I live in Michigan and closest embassy is in Chicago which is 5 and half hours away. Can I apply for chinese visa by mail? how soon should I apply for the visa

No, you cannot. The consulate-general in Chicago does not provide mail service. You need to submit your application in person to the consular office. But you can entrust someone to pick up with your certificate of collection.
