About:10-year China Visa for US and Canadian Citizens

Canadians in China 1month: should we extend our (10yr) 2month visa, or renew in HK from Shenzhen?

I'm on L visa, husband, M - after invite letter from Beijing publisher - now wanting to be in Beijing past visa expiry (we're now in rural area near Hong Kong with relatives). Applying for visa extension for both maybe difficult here (to get all relevant documents & go to city PSB?), & Bj inviter unsure if can do for us there. We need to book new flight out soon, but unsure departing date til know if can extend stay (or becomes too expensive), so can't just wait til we're in Bj in 2 weeks. If extend, is it a new visa that cancels 10yr visa (like before)? Or could we just cross Shenzhen border again to HK (how we entered month ago) & just re-enter on new 2month visa stamp? (do 10yr M visas need new invite letters?)

For a M visa extension, you do need the necessary documents including the invitation letter provided by the Beijing publisher, or it will be hard to get one. For a L visa extension, you will need provided your travel itinerary and the extension will be no more than 30 days. The visa extension won't cancel your visa applied before. Only if there is a change of your visa type, will the old visa be canceled.
