About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144-hr transit itinerary question

My friend has a ticket US to S.Korea (3hrs) to Beijing then Beijing direct to US. Does this itinerary meet the 144-hr transit requirement of Country A - Beijing - Country B. Her starting point is US but she will stop in Seoul, S. Korea for 3 hours before flying to Beijing. She has a direct Beijing to US departure flight within the 144-hours.

Under the assumption that you have presented an itinerary in every detail without omitting any stop, then your friend will be definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Beijing area that consists of Beijing, Tianjin and entire Hebei province. When we talk about the itinerary, the basic rule says that the immediate points before and after a Chinese destination have to be in two different countries or eligible territories. In this case, this is fulfilled because the immediate points are South Korea and US. One detail... It is important that your friend always say that she/he is flying from South Korea to US via Beijing and not from US to US via Beijing. South Korea to US via Beijing is the way to go. Everything that has happened before Seoul in reality does not matter.
