About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Singapore --> Guangzhou or Shenzhen --> HK (Via Shenzhen) Under 18

I'm an American planning to use the Guangdong TWOV to fly from Singapore to Guangzhou or Shenzhen in June, stay with a family member for 5 days, and then go onward to HK via the Chu Kong Ferry from Shekou to HK.

My questions are:
1. I will be 17 at the time of travel. Are there any age restrictions for either the TWOV or the Chu Kong ferry?
2. I want to verify whether the Chu Kong ferry from Shekou is still a valid method of departure, and also how early I can book tickets in advance. Do ferry tickets come with seat selection like the TWOV requires?
3. When I arrive, I am staying with my family member. Do I have notify any authority of where I'm staying?

Thank you

You have perfectly understood the rules of 144 hour visa free transit because you can use Shenzhen and Guangzhou airports interchangeably. However:

1. I am afraid that you have to be 18 in order to use this visa free transits scheme.
2. Taking a ferry id definitely an eligible method and the tickets have to be booked in advance in order that you have them in your possession as printouts at the time of your booking in a country where from you are traveling toward China. TWOV actually does not require a confirmed seat, but a confirmed ticket. This with confirmed seat is a requirement of the past that is not enforced.
3. It is allowed to stay with family members or friends in their private homes, but a person who intends to do that will have to declare who the host will be along with the address and the full identity. Also, it is required to make a registration at the nearest PSB (Public Security Bureau) within 24 hours after the arrival in China.

I see, Thank you.

In that case, I'm considering getting the 10 year Tourist "L" Visa instead. Given my age and circumstances, is this a feasible option? Additionally, if it is, would I still need to notify the PSB of my stay?
