when to apply

I am travelling from Australia [Australian and british passport holder] to Philippines staying April to June then I want to go to China and stay for six weeks from end of june to 1st week Aug [ may be getting married] when should i apply for a visa to China and would it be better to buy a 10 yr visa through my British passport.
