About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Following question

Following up on the detailed answer regarding the 24-hour visa-free transit at Yantai Airport, I have an additional question concerning a slightly different scenario. What happens if my total transit time in mainland China, from my scheduled arrival in Kunming to my scheduled departure from Yantai, exceeds 24 hours but does not exceed 72 hours? Could you please provide guidance on whether there is a provision under Chinese visa policies to accommodate such a situation, and if so, what specific procedures would I need to follow?

Unfortunately, this is not possible under any available visa free transit scheme. In other words, if you have more than one stop within mainland China and if your entire transit time is longer than 24 hours, you have to obtain a visa in advance. In this case, a transit visa (G) will do the job.

Both 72 and 144 hour visa free transit are valid only if you visit just one transit area within mainland China and your itinerary has to have its immediate points, before and after your mainland China destination, in two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories: Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau).
