About:Chinese Embassy in Malaysia

China citizens that holding Malaysia red nric

My father in law is currently holding a Malaysia red nric, he is born in China and migrate into Malaysia before Malaysia independence day, Malaysia has given him red color identify card. Now he want to renew his passport but it was rejected by Malaysia immigration department by saying the passport should be given by China embassy instead. We are confused and would like to seek your clarification. Thanks

Does he still have the Chinese passport? Then he is still a Chinese citizen and he needs to update the passport in China Embassy. Having the red nuric doesn't mean he can directly have a Malaysian passport.
