About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

is the 72 hour visa free transit permit still available ?

we will have to change from pu dong airport to Hongqiao airport with a 14 hour layover
we want to stay the night near Hongqiao airport and look around is that possible and advisable?

Yes, the 72-hour visa-free transit has been expanded to 144-hour visa-free transit. However, since your layover time is less than 24 hours, you are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit. You can apply for a temporary entry permit to get out of the airport.
