About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

South African: need a transit visa for connecting flight to UK?

I am a South African passport holder with a working HK visa (where I live).
Flying to London from Hong Kong via Shanghai. Will be in transiting in Shanghai for 4-5 hours before catching connecting flight to London Gatwick. I will not leave the airport.

I do not see South Africa mentioned in any of the Transit Visas.
Please advise if I need to apply for a transit visa.

Thank you.

If Shanghai is your only stop within mainland China and your stay is shorter than 24 hours and your itinerary is:

Hong Kong - Shanghai - London

You will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. As you can see, South African citizens are not eligible for 144 or 72 hour visa free transit, but they are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit. Just to conclude, you are go to go.

One more detail... Please, just use correct terminology because we are not talking about any visas or transit visas, but about visa free transit, so there is no visa of any kind!
