About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I eligible for 144 hour visa free stay

Fly San Francisco to Hong Kong, stay 4 days, then board cruise ship in Hong Kong which 10 days later arrives in Tianjin. There is a stop in Taiwan before reaching Tianjin. We disembark ship in Tianjin and visit Beijing for total of 4 days. Fly from Beijing to Tokyo after that. Do I need a Visa or am I eligible for 144 hour visa free policy? Another wrinkle, US citizen, but born in Turkey. Thank you!!

If you have mentioned your all stops within your itinerary and it seems you did, then the segment of your itinerary that really matters is the following:

Taiwan - Tianjin/Beijing - Tokyo

This itinerary is perfectly eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Beijing area (cities of Beijing and Tianjin as well as the entire Hebei province) and you do not need any kind of visa. It is only important that you do not have any additional stop in mainland China between Taiwan and Tianjin/Beijing!

The fact that you were born in Turkey will not present any obstacle for you to enjoy 144 hour visa free transit... After all Turkish Airlines lands and departs with three daily flights to mainland China (Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou) with Turkish business people and tourists. Just relax and every will be fine.
