About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Can I stop over in 144 hour visa free travel

Hi,
I am planning on using the 144 hour visa to travel to Beijing from Hong Kong via the train. I have then booked a flight from Beijing to Phuket for 5 days later. This flight is not direct and stops in Kunming for less than two hours. Is this still available for the 144 hour visa free travel or will a visa be needed?

No, unfortunately, this itinerary is not eligible for two reasons:

1. You cannot take a train from Hong Kong to Beijing, but only to fly. Train used to be eligible, but it is not any more.
2. You cannot have more than one stop in China, so an itinerary where you have Kunming after Beijing immediately disqualifies you for this visa free transit scheme.

To conclude, if you can I advise you to redraw your itinerary to look like:

Hong Kong - Beijing - Phuket - all on nonstop flights

If you have already booked your flights and you cannot change them, you will have to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
