About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

CND visiting Japan, Shanghai, Hong Kong, India see below

I am a CND flying from Japan visiting Shanghai and Hong Kong for about 48 hrs each then flying on to India would the 72hr visa work for me? Would I have to apply for it in both Shanghai and Hong Kong or could I get a 144hr covering both?

If your itinerary, but precise one and without any additional landing within mainland China is:

Japan - Shanghai - Hong Kong - India

You are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in wider Shanghai area and you do not need any kind of visa. Also, it is 144 and not 72 hours in Shanghai. 72 hours was replaced by more generous 144 hours years ago.

You do not need any visa free transit scheme in Hong Kong because Canadian citizens can travel there visa free.
