About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit Visa required for for domestic transfer in China. London>Changsha>Haikou>Melbourne

We are flying from London to Changsha with a domestic transit to Haikou before onward journey to Melbourne. Does this qualify for the 72hr visa even though we will be entering another Chinese port before leaving for final destination?

No, it does not. Both 72 and 144 hour visa free transit schemes do not allow having two mainland Chinese stops in the row. You can do this journey only under 24 hour visa free transit, but under the condition that your entire transit time, counted from your first scheduled landing in Changsha until your last departure from Haikou is less than 24 hours. If this is the case, then you are fine to go and you do not need any kind of visa. However, if your entire transit time requires even a minute longer than 24 hours, you would need a visa obtained in advance.
