About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Melbourne to Guangzhou to Hong Kong

I am an Australian passport holder and planning trip from Melbourne to Hong Kong via Guangzhou.
Do I have to fly from Guangzhou to Hong Kong? Can I take high speed rail, bus?
I assume I am eligible for the 144 hr visa free entry to Guangzhou.

You can have the following itinerary:

Australia - Guangzhou - Hong Kong - please, have in mind that you will have to stay in Guangzhou or better to say Guangdong province at leas a minute longer than 24 hours to be eligible for this visa free transit scheme!

This itinerary is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, but you cannot take a train and even the buses are highly problematic. You are advised to take a ferry. Ferries depart from different convenient locations directly to Hong Kong. In order to be within rules frames, you will have to buy your ferry ticket online, before your departure from Australia through CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transport Company website and then print it out. You will have to have that printout at hand to present it in both Australia at check-in and in Guangzhou upon arrival. In the end, you will really have to take exactly that ferry you have bought your tickets for.
