Temporary entry permit at Guangzhou

I'm flying from UK to Australia with a 16 hours layover at Guangzhou's Baiyun International Airport on an Iranian passport. Is it possible for me to get the 24 hours temporary entry permit at the airport to stay at a hotel outside the transit area? Thanks.

Well, as far as you know, the issuing a temporary entry permit at any Chinese airport is actually not a right, but more a bonus that can be offered by airport authorities based on their discretionary rights. You right is to travel through China visa free covered by 24 hour visa free transit.

Here I can just say that since your layover is a long one and as I can assume from your post, an overnight one, so you are definitely advised to apply for the permit immediately upon your landing and to present your accommodation booking confirmation. Usually, but not always, airport authorities grant a permit to those who plan to have a decent night rest and I would say that your chances are quite good or even very good, although nobody can say that it is guaranteed.
