About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Multiple Stops in China

Hello, my name is Nguyen. I only have a Vietnamese passport with a German student visa. I purchased a round-trip ticket with Air China from Frankfurt (Germany) to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). I have some following questions, I hope you can answer it.

My first flight route: Frankfurt -> Beijing -> Chongqing -> Ho Chi Minh City. The total time between my arrival and departure from China will be approximately 7 hours.

Do I have to exit Beijing International Airport to go to the domestic terminal to board the Beijing - Chongqing flight? When transiting in Beijing and Chongqing, do I need to apply for a transit visa in advance if I don't want to leave the airport to visit the city?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.
Best regards

You are eligible for the 24-hour visa-free transit and no visa is needed.

Nguyen, just one practical information. When you land in China at your first airport, you should not queue at immigration, but look after 24/144 hour visa free transit counter. At that counter you will apply for a temporary entry permit for free and present them your flight itinerary. After a short check, your entry permit will be granted and you will proceed toward immigration and then to take your following flight. It is hard to tell you exactly where should you go as far as your flight is concerned, so just follow the information provided at the airport board and look for your flight in order not to miss it. Also, inform yourself at the time of check-in if your luggage will be tagged all the way to your final destination.
