About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai and Guangzhou on transit visa

If I fly to shanghai and enter on a 72h transit visa, will I be able to go to Guaungzhou for a day visit?

No, this is not possible under 144 hour visa free transit. You are allowed to visit just one transit area at the time. Also, this is not a visa, but a visa free transit and in both Shanghai and Guangzhou, it is not 72, but 144 hour visa free transit.

It is important that the immediate points before and after your Chinese destination are in two different countries and/or eligible territories. So, you can do something like this:

A country (different than China) - Shanghai - Hong Kong

This is valid for 144 hour visa free transit and after that:

Hong Kong (by plane) - Guangzhou (by ferry) - Macau

This is one possibility where you can enjoy 144 hour visa free transit in both Shanghai and Guangzhou.
