About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Combine Shanghai and Beijing in the same trip

As I understood above it is not possible to combine Beijing and Shanghai in the same trip within 144 hours, am I correct?

You can combine them in the same trip if you exit mainland China in between. For example, Japan-Beijing-Hong Kong-Shanghai-Japan is eligible for 144 hours in both Beijing and Shanghai.
