About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Multiple stops in China

Hello,

I will be traveling from South Korea to Beijing for one day then traveling to Hong Kong for 2 days and then back to the USA. Do I need a Visa for either of these places since I will be making more than one stop in China? If I don't need a Visa for Beijing, do I go to the 72 free hour lane when landing?

You do not need a visa for your itinerary. Hong Kong, although part of China, has separate immigration policy and consequently is not treated as a stop in China. In other words, if your stay in Beijing is shorter than 24 hours, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and if your stay is longer than 24 hours, you will be covered by 144 hour visa free transit (it is 144 hours in Beijing). So, you will see on your ticket what does it say.
