About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I have to use the same airline

I am thinking of flying from London to Shanghai with BA

Leaving Shanghai for Phuket with Juneyao Airlines

So these would be in effect separate tickets. Am I still eligible for the 72/144 visa-free stay?

You are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit because using separate airlines and unrelated tickets is fine and acceptable as long as your itinerary is eligible. As I can see from your presentation, you will have an itinerary:

London - Shanghai - Phuket

This itinerary allows you to stay and explore wider Shanghai area for 6 consecutive days. Also, it is 144 and not 72 hours. 72 hours were replaced by more generous 144 hours years ago.
