About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Uk - Guangzhou - Melbourne

I have a 14 hours layover in Guangzhou next week. Will it be possible to leave the airport and check the city for few hours? Do I have to apply for the visa at the airport or online ?
My husband is English and I’m Italian

Both of you are eligible for 24-hour visa free transit, so no visa is needed. But to leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport. However, it's not guaranteed you will get it for sure because the immigration staff may think it not enough to tour the city and back to connect to the next flight.
