Cruise visa requirements

Hello, I am going on a cruise later in the year and the ship is docking in Shanghai for 2 days. I am unsure what the visa requirements are for this? Do I still require a Chinese visa if I will only be disembarking on excursions organised by the cruise provider? Thank you
