About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Short layover in Guangzhou

I am holding a Malaysia passport, flying from Singapore -> Guangzhou -> Rome with China Southern Airlines (layover less than 3 hours). Return trip from Rome -> Guangzhou -> Singapore. Do I need to apply for any Visa? Any application needed prior to the departure?
