Questions about Visa

Hi, I have a few questions:
1. If you need to present flight bookings as part of the visa application process, does this mean you should purchase refundable flight tickets in case the visa application is rejected? It is quite a large cost considering there may be risk of rejection.
2. When showing hotel bookings, do they need to cover the entire duration of the stay? What kind of information is required?
3. Can you explain a bit more about the nature of the Visa: You apply for the visa, and then once it is approved you have a certain amount of time to enter China, and then the 30 day duration starts when you enter China within that timeframe. Is this correct?
4. If you are a UK citizen but living in Australia, can you apply for a 10-year visa at an Australian CVASC?

1. Yes, you could buy refundable flight tickets in case of being rejected.
2. The accommodation info for a few days at the beginning of entry is fine. The order number and hotel address should be included. You may just print out the hotel order and use it.
3. Yes, you have a time period for preparation of arrival after getting the visa, which is validity of the visa, which is usually 3-6 months for a single-entry. The duration of stay, usually 30 days for tourist visa, starts at 00:00 the next day of your arrival.
4. I'm afraid you will be rejected and only get a normal visa. The 10-year one is not available in Australia.

Hi Yoki,

Thanks for your reply, it is very helpful. I have another question if you don't mind.

I have heard that payment in China can be very difficult, for example that you need to use Wechat pay which requires a Chinese bank account to set up. Can you provide any insight on how easy it is for a foreign tourist to pay for things in China?

You've got the point. Chinese people seldom use cash nowadays, but WeChat pay or Alipay. But don't worry a lot, most places still accept cash, just that the cashier may you think you come from ancient times.

Hey Harry, most places will still accept cash, if you ask. Opening a Chinese bank account for someone visiting on a tourist visa probably wouldn't be possible (I think you need a residency permit) and you would need to have a dedicated Chinese phone number to use the payments function on WeChat or Alipay, anyway. Most places in tourist-y areas, like the Silk Market and the Pearl Market, will accept foreign credit or debit cards directly. Hotels will take them, too. And you can find ATMs all over the place to withdraw cash, but be warned - if they're not from the Bank of China, they might have some pretty nasty fees. Obviously, tell your bank where you're going, too. Have fun traveling!

Hi Yoki,

thanks for your reply. One more question if you don't mind. In regards to the requirement to show return flights for the visa application, would the exiting flight need to return to the original destination, or could it be an onwards flight to a 3rd country?

Thanks for your help

It can be anywhere in the world, either your home country or a third country.
