About:China Visa on Arrival

Australia passport with Filipino Helper - is VOA possible?

Australian passport holder, wanting to travel to Shenzhen next week with my 7yo child. We are Australian passport holders. I have previous china visa in an old passport, my child (also Australian) has never been to china and this will be her first time.
My Filipino helper has a previous china visa in an old passport, her current passport only renewed this year. Is this ok?

I am thinking of taking ferry to shekou terminal, will this be ok?

It will be definitely fine for Australian passport holders, but it is hard to say if Filipino passport holder will be accepted or rejected. In my opinion, since your Filipino helper has been issued a Chinese visa in the past and you will also cleverly plan to take a ferry to Shekou, I would say that your helper chances are really very good. Since you will be a group and since it would be quite complicated for Chinese authorities to return back your helper to Hong Kong, I would say that it will be fine for all of you. Also, your Filipino helper should bring her/his old passport with a Chinese visa inside.

Was fine for me and my child (Australian passport) to get the VOA at Shekou. The Shekou ferry was empty and we were the only ones requiring visa, but process still took 40mins.

Unfortunately my Filipino helper was turned back. Filipinos are not allowed to get VOA and must apply for visa beforehand. The worst thing was that she had to wait at the border for the next ferry which was at 4:45pm (we took the 9am ferry) with no internet or food. It was awful for her!
