About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

transit via HK

Hi,
I was planning to fly from Germany to HK and then enter China at the land border in Shenzhen where I will get a plane back to Germany. Would this qualify for the 144 h visa free?
Would that work the other way around?
Germany-Shenzhen-(land border) HK-Germany?

HK - Shenzhen (land border) - Germany is not eligible; only Shenzhen airport issues the VOA.
As for Germany - Shenzhen - HK, it is eligible if you go by ferry from Shenzhen to HK and have the ferry ticket in hand when landing at the airport.
